South Korean actor Song Young Kyu was found dead in his car on Monday August 4, 2025 South Korean time. He was reportedly depressed by malicious news and netizen comments. The actor was under pressure to face criticism after he was caught in a drunk driving case in June 2025.

"He was pressured by the malicious articles and comments, and the situation was very unfavorable at the time," a source told Edaily via Naver, on Monday August 4, 2025. The cause of Song Young Kyu's death is still being investigated by police. Initial investigations indicated there were no signs of foul play at the scene of the actor's death.

Police will question the family and witnesses, including opening up the possibility of an autopsy to determine the cause of the actor's death. Song Young Kyu's body has been taken from the crime scene and will be laid out in Special Room 1 of the Davos Hospital funeral home, Yonggin City.

Song Young Kyu is a famous Korean actor who has starred in The Virus (2013), Stardust (2015), Hwarang (2016), Voice (2017), and Revolutionary Love (2017). He also appeared in the hit drama Reply 1988 as Kim Tae Yong, Sun Young's (Kim Sun Young) older brother and Sung Sun Woo's (Go Kyung Pyo) uncle.

Young Kyu then continued to actively act until the 2020s, appearing in various titles, including Hot Stove League (2019), Narco-Saints (2022), Big Bet (2022), Agency (2023), Destined with You (2023), The Tale of Lady Ok (2024), Love Scout (2025), and The Haunted Palace (2025). Young Kyu's popularity has also led him to various big-screen projects. 

He has starred in Half (2016), VIP (2017), and played Chief Detective Choi in the hit comedy Extreme Job (2019). Some of Young Kyu's recent film projects include Toxic (2022), Where Would You Like to Go? (2023), The Desperate Chase (2024), and Land of Happiness (2024).
