SHINee's Minho recently apologized after being embroiled in a controversy regarding a marathon he participated in. Although he successfully completed the marathon with a time of 3 hours, 0 minutes, and 18 seconds on November 1, 2026, a video showing an alleged violation of race rules sparked complaints against his role as an ambassador for the Korean Sports and Olympic Committee.
According to the Korean Olympic Committee, a complaint was filed on November 4, 2026, requesting a review of Minho's continued duties as an ambassador. The complaint also addresses the verification of the JTBC Seoul 2026 Marathon committee's implementation of race rules and record processing, as well as the basis for Minho's assignment to Group B.
The Korean Olympic Committee will investigate the matter and appoint a responsible person. Minho was appointed as an ambassador in September of last year, with the aim of assisting in promotional activities aimed at promoting everyday sports and conveying sports policy messages.
However, after a video showing a pacemaker pushing him circulated on social media, the controversy escalated. In a statement on social media on November 3, 2026, Minho expressed his deep shame over the incident.
He said, "I feel so ashamed," before voluntarily returning his finishing notes to the event organizers on November 4. The organizers reportedly accepted Minho's intentions and decided not to release official results for the race.
Despite Minho's apology and return of the records, questions remain about the suitability of his role as ambassador. The complaint not only calls for verification of the competition process and handling of the records, but also questions whether Minho should continue his duties as ambassador.
