ZEROBASEONE's Zhang Hao, was recently diagnosed with Covid-19. ZEROBASEONE's label, Wake One, confirmed the news on August 24, 2023, saying that Zhang Hao had been experiencing abnormal symptoms and mild body aches. After proactively undergoing an antigen rapid test, he tested positive for COVID-19.
As a result, he was unable to attend the in-person signing events that were held on August 25, 26, and 27 KST. However, this situation left the fans dissatisfied. Although Wakeone has chosen to go ahead with the fansigning event as scheduled, involving all eight members except for Zhang Hao, this decision has not been well-received by fans.
Many supporters considered it a willful abandonment of Zhang Hao, and many voices called for the event to be postponed to include Zhang Hao at a later date. Expressing their frustration, the angry fans took to Twitter to actively protest what they saw as Wakeone's continued mistreatment of Zhang Hao.
The hashtag demanding the postponement of the fan signing event quickly rose to the top 5 trends in South Korea. In a show of intense discontent, fans even organized a protest truck which was stationed outside the Wake One building. The truck requested a postponement of the fan signing event or the arrangement of an individual fan signing event for Zhang Hao after he recovered.
Some fans even raised the issue of refunds. Chinese fans also united in solidarity to support Zhang Hao, and this topic received significant attention on China's main Weibo platform. Overall, fans view this situation as an indication of the company's inability to treat its members as equals. ZEROBASEONE stands as one of the first groups of the fifth generation of K-pop.
Comprising nine members, their journey began with Mnet's reality TV competition 'Boys Planet,' where over 90 aspiring idols showcased their singing and dancing talents in pursuit of debut opportunities in new boy bands. Ultimately, the group debuted with nine members: Zhang Hao, Sung Han Bin, Seok Matthew, Ricky, Park Gun Wook, Kim Tae Rae, Kim Gyu Vin, Kim Ji Woong, and Han Yu Jin.
Most recently, they performed at KCON LA 2023, where they also unveiled a teaser film for their upcoming album. Officially announcing their plans, the group will be releasing new music in November, marking a comeback just months after their debut. Fans are looking forward to what kind of music the group will bring in this comeback.
