Tom Cruise reveals the story of filming an extreme scene in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning that made him pass out due to lack of oxygen. He revealed the dangerous scene occurred while filming on a plane.
He claimed to have run out of oxygen because his head was out of the plane that was speeding at high altitude. The situation made him practice breathing so he wouldn't pass out and could return to the cockpit.
"When you stick your face out (of a plane) going 120 to 130 miles per hour, you're not going to get any oxygen," said Tom Cruise, as reported by Variety on Sunday February 9, 2025."So, I had to train myself how to breathe. There were moments when I was going to physically pass out; I couldn't get back in the cockpit," he continued.
The extreme scene on the plane will also be one of Tom Cruise's main appearances for Mission: Impossible 8. The action has even been shown in the trailer that was released some time ago. The scene adds to the list of extreme stunts Cruise has performed for the Mission: Impossible franchise.
He has previously scaled the Burj Khalifa, jumped off a motorcycle after jumping off a cliff, and climbed onto a plane in takeoff. M:I 8 director Christopher McQuarrie himself said that Tom Cruise's appearance in the final installment of the franchise would be the craziest.
"There was a day in Africa where Tom stepped up and did something more extraordinary than anything he had ever done before," McQuarrie said. Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. The upcoming film will also be the final film in the saga.
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning will continue Ethan Hunt's life mission with The Entity and its envoy, Gabriel (Esai Morales). The eighth project continues the story from Mission: Impossible 7 or Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One which was released in 2023.
Final Reckoning stars Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, with the IMF gang played by Ving Rhames and Simon Peg. Meanwhile, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, and Pom Klementieff are also confirmed to return. Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is scheduled for release on May 23, 2025.
