Actress Anna Kendrick stars in the latest mystery thriller film titled 'Woman of the Hour' which is airing on Netflix. As the main character, the 39-year-old woman admitted that she did not receive a penny. In the film, inspired by a true story, Anna plays Sheryl Bradshaw, a contestant on a reality TV dating show.
Her character then meets another contestant who turns out to be a serial killer. Not only is she an actor, Anna is also a director, for the first time. In an interview on the Crime Junkie AF podcast, Anna revealed that she was not paid for the film project. Her fees as an actor and director were donated to organizations that focus on helping victims of violence and sexual crimes.
The star who is popular through the film 'Pitch Perfect' emphasized that the making of 'Woman of the Hour' was not solely for profit. "Trust me, for me this is not a money-making venture, because all the resources are put into making the film," he said of the film, which will first be released in 2023.
It wasn't until 2024, after it premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, that Netflix became interested in buying it. "It was at the Toronto Film Festival, where the film premiered and it's a big festival for people to buy films, and that's where Netflix ended up buying the film," Anna explained.
Even after being bought by Netflix, Anna did not take any compensation for her hard work. "I didn't make any money from the film. The money is going, or has gone, to RAINN and the National Center for Victims of Violent Crime," she concluded.
