South Korean actor Kim Mu Yeol has responded to the controversy and criticism surrounding the series "Teach You a Lesson," which was released on June 5, 2026. The series is adapted from the popular webtoon "Get Schooled" by Chae Yong Taek.
Teach You A Lesson tells the story of Na Hwa Jin (Kim Mu Yeol), a corporate employee who joins the Bureau for the Protection of Educational Rights, established by the Ministry of Education to resolve various cases in the educational sector.
Na Hwa Jin does not hesitate to do anything to uphold justice and the law. In an interview, the 44-year-old actor admitted that he and the creators were always careful in making the series and executing the scenes.
“We made an effort to ensure that the series is not consumed as mere entertainment or a cheap revenge fantasy,” said Kim Mu Yeol, as quoted by the Korea Times. "I hope viewers can see the 'corporate punishment' in this series as a narrative tool to encourage the characters to reflect and regret.
We didn't want the story to end with just the punishment; we tried to focus on how these students change," he said. Kim Mu Yeol explains, “This is a very complex problem that even experts and educators on the front lines are struggling to solve.”
He believes the creators of "Teach You a Lesson" are able to explain difficult issues in a way that's easy for viewers to understand. This is also evident in the series' ending, which shows Na Hwa Jin confronting her past.
“I felt like Hwa Jin’s character arc reached its peak at that point, ultimately choosing forgiveness and discipline over revenge,” said Kim Mu Yeol. Teach You a Lesson immediately topped Netflix's global charts upon its release. Actor Kim Mu Yeol was also the most talked-about actor of the week.
