SHINee's Key recently made his solo comeback with the album and title track 'Gasoline.' After the release of the album and MV for 'Gasoline,' Key also received a lot of praise for his hard work creating unconventional and extraordinary concepts. Launching kpopstarz, while waiting for the release of the MV for 'Gasoline,' SM Entertainment previously held a Countdown Live broadcast with Key.
In the video, Key talks about various interesting things behind the making of the album 'Gasoline.' Key also didn't forget to talk about the sets and scenes in the music video. According to him, the background for the MV 'Gasoline' is set in Seoul, not Kwangya, the metaverse created by SM Entertainment. He also said that the concept of 'Gasoline' had absolutely nothing to do with 'BAD LOVE.'
However, fans noticed that the part of Key's statement that touched on the metaverse in his music video was removed from the Countdown Live replay video that SM Entertainment posted on their official YouTube channel. The action was allegedly carried out by SM Entertainment because they did not like the fact that Key brought up the concept of Kwangya who was not involved in his latest MV.
Fans were also annoyed by SM Entertainment's actions which were considered too imposing the Kwangya concept on its artists. They believe Key and other artists and groups already have their own colors and music, so they don't need a universe that SM Entertainment created late. "They should have kept the concept of Kwangya for aespa. Why involve all their groups who already had a good concept before Kwangya? SM, you guys are not Marvel."
"They think we won't notice? Every SM group already has their own music color.. So SM should stop trying to include Kwangya in lyrics and MVs.. If sm wants to make SM Universe, make SMCU series, webtoons, and novels. It's fine.. As long as it's separated from the music.." "I actually like Kwangya's concept but for whatever. Involving all SM artists makes it solid, I mean NCT alone already has an unlimited member concept."
"SM really doesn't know how to respect their artists. I can tolerate them trying to control the group concept, but the reason why idols decide to debut solo is to establish their own identity, not expand on Kwangya's concept. Why are you trying to control that?" Meanwhile, Key's countdown video editing wasn't the only thing fans were mad at SM Entertainment. Many thought that the company did not respect Key's creative input and ignored his opinion of his solo music.
In addition, fans also remember when SM Entertainment put Key in a bad situation during the process of working on the album 'BAD LOVE.' From music video shooting, production, budgeting, to promotions, Key struggles to have his voice heard. What do you think about Key SHINee 's statement edited by SM Entertainment?
