DreamWorks Animation has tapped Zendaya to voice Felicia, Shrek's daughter in Shrek 5. Zendaya is confirmed to join the sequel that will bring back iconic characters that have been loved by audiences for more than two decades.

Zendaya continues to prove herself as one of the most influential actresses in the entertainment industry. Her joining Shrek 5 adds to the list of big projects she is currently working on. In the near future, Zendaya will appear in The Odyssey with Christopher Nolan as director.

Not only that, there is a possibility that she will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe through Spider-Man 4, where Tom Holland still plays Peter Parker. After that, Zendaya is also scheduled to return to the world of Dune, because the character Chani that she plays will have a crucial role in Dune: Messiah.

Along with the news, the studio released a short video showing the new designs for Shrek (Mike Myers), Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz), and other characters. In the clip, the happy swamp family is seen looking into the Magic Mirror as if they were using a smartphone.

Shrek 5's story details are still a mystery. Shrek's last appearance on the big screen was fifteen years ago in Shrek Forever After, where he went on a life-changing journey. DreamWorks Animation hasn't said much about the sequel, but today's new cast announcement confirms that there will be a time jump in the story.

Back then, the Shrek kids were babies, but now they're all grown up. Set in a more advanced time, what new challenges await the ogre? All will be revealed next year. Shrek 5 is directed by Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon.

Dohrn has been with DreamWorks Animation for a long time and previously helmed every film in the Trolls franchise. Meanwhile Conrad Vernon was involved in the development of Shrek 2, which many fans consider to be the best film in the series.

DreamWorks seems very serious about reviving one of its most successful properties. If all goes according to plan, Shrek 5 has the potential to become the ogre's first adventure to gross over $1 billion at the global box office. Shrek 5 hits theaters on December 23, 2026.
