Lee Seung Gi spoke for the first time about the conflict with Hook Entertainment. This statement was made shortly after management admitted that they had paid all of the actor's previously withheld income. In a statement released through his Instagram account, Lee Seung Gi admitted that he had received the money that had been his right.
He emphasized that his conflict with Hook Entertainment was not just a matter of money. "This morning I received a text message containing around KRW 5 billion Won (approximately Rp. 60 billion) that has been deposited into my account. It seems that Hook Entertainment thinks I am bringing this matter to legal channels just for money," opened Lee Seung Gi.
"I have never gotten the same message about my music royalties. They are trying to solve this case unilaterally on the pretext of paying unpaid income," he continued. Lee Seung Gi admitted that he had never known about the benefits or royalties he should have received from his musical works.
During his 18-year career, he has held himself back after hearing the term 'minus singer' (a term for musicians with negative income) pinned on him. Even though he had received the income he should have received, Lee Seung Gi admitted that he had no intention of withdrawing the report.
He wanted his management to know that one's hard work should not be abused for the sake of other people's greed. "What I can promise is that regardless of the total amount of income that has not been paid, I will donate it all. Starting from the KRW 5 billion that was deposited today, excluding legal aid fees, I will return the rest to the public," emphasized Lee Seung Gi.
"Starting next week, I will be meeting with representatives of charities to decide on specific plans. There are many people who are so physically disabled that it is difficult for them to move. There are many who have dreams but have to give up amidst circumstances. There are also those who cannot get proper care even if they live threatened.
The 5 billion KRW may not be enough to help them all, but I will take action starting with small steps," he added. At the end of the statement, Lee Seung Gi also expressed gratitude for the support and love given by fans and the public when he faced conflicts with management.
