The Cupid song which was popularized by the South Korean girl group FIFTY FIFTY was accused of plagiarism. This was mentioned by a Turkish singer named Evrencan Gündüz. On Wednesday April 26, 2023, Evrencan Gündüz uploaded a video comparing the song FIFTY FIFTY with the song he composed on Instagram.

He first played the first verse of Cupid's song while singing it. Evrencan Gündüz then played Sen AÅŸkımızdan's song, which he released in 2017. According to him, Cupid, who went viral on TikTok, sounded very familiar to the song he sang with Melisa Karakurt and Ece Cansu.

"FIFTY FIFTY released a good song. Let's listen to it together :) But this seems familiar with a song... Isn't this?... Aaa yes!  Turkish song Sen AÅŸkımızdan!" wrote the owner of the Instagram account @evrencangunduz. FIFTY FIFTY's accusation of plagiarism suddenly became a topic of conversation among Korean netizens.

A music expert also gave a response. Although the portion of Cupid's song performed by Evrencan Gündüz is similar to his own, it is difficult to say whether FIFTY FIFTY is committing plagiarism. "When you listen, the two songs sound similar, but it's hard to tell if it's plagiarism with just this video," explained the music expert.

FIFTY FIFTY's agency also spoke up after being contacted by a media outlet. ATTRAKT said it was trying to contact the producer of the song Cupid, which it accused of plagiarizing a Turkish singer. "We are trying to confirm it with the producer of the song," said ATTRAKT's statement as reported by Koreaboo.

Because the producer of Cupid's song lives outside of South Korea, FIFTY FIFTY's agency needs time to clarify the accusations to the public. Now Korean netizens are busy discussing accusations of FIFTY FIFTY of plagiarism in Korean community forums.

This accusation sparked debate because not a few netizens thought that Cupid was similar to Sen Aşkımızdan's song. But not a few also think the two songs sound different. "I wouldn't call this plagiarism but it's really similar," commented a Korean netizen.

"The melody, rhythm and progression are the same," said another netizen. "People who judge these two songs are the same have clogged ears," wrote a Korean netizen. "Am I the only person who doesn't hear the resemblance?" said another netizen who denied that FIFTY FIFTY committed plagiarism.
