EXO's Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin have filed an official lawsuit to terminate their contract with SM Entertainment, Thursday, June 1, 2023. An unfair agreement is the cause. Launching from Soompi, the three EXO members have submitted their official statement through legal representatives and lawyer Lee Jae-hak from the law firm Lin.
They have been trying to cancel the contract since March 21, 2023."Since March 21 until now, the three members sent content certification seven times, and through this, they requested a transparent copy of the settlement report and the basis for the settlement."
In the official statement, EXO's Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin informed SM Entertainment that their contract had been terminated since Thursday, June 1, 2023. This happened because SM Entertainment tried to make a contract with its artist for 18 years, which of course doesn't make sense.
"After SM Entertainment signed long-term contracts with their artists over 12 to 13 years in the past, this period was not enough, so SM Entertainment asked them to sign another exclusive contract again with a minimum long-term contract period of 17 years or more than 18 years.
They also repeatedly committed cruelties that were grossly unjust, such as making confessions," the attorney said. "This is SM, which is committing an unfair use of power against its artists once again," EXO's Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin debuted with EXO in 2012. They have joined and become artists under SM Entertainment for more than 10 years.
