On Thursday, June 6, 2023, Three EXO members, namely, Baekhyun, Xiumin, Chen filed for termination of their exclusive contract with SM Entertainment after previously asking the agency to provide a copy of the report regarding artist rights in a transparent manner.

Lee Jae Hak further said that SM encourages artists to enter into long-term contracts up to 12-13 and ask them to re-sign contracts at least until 17-18 years or more. It also goes beyond the Fair Trade Commission's Standard Exclusive Contract Form for Entertainers. "And unilaterally harm the artist for at least exceeding reasonable limits," said Lee Jae Hak.
In his written statement, Lee Jae Hak explained three points regarding the submission of termination of Baekhyun, Xiumin and Chen's exclusive contracts. The first is about the artist's position regarding their activities and SM's refusal to provide a settlement report. The second is the artist's position on unfair long-term contracts and efforts to extend them.
In his explanation, Lee Jae Hak said EXO's Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen could not negotiate properly. "In the process of sealing the next exclusive contract, the artists could not negotiate properly, and it was difficult to reflect their wishes or set the terms of the contract equally," he said.
In his written statement, Lee Jae Hak also conveyed messages from Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen, apologizing for causing concern. "We apologize for causing great concern due to this matter, and there is no way to express our full apologies," he wrote.
It was further stated that the three of them also harbored great fear, but what they did was an effort to get justice. "While we are trying to speak in small voices about injustices that we have not been able to talk about until now, we are actually very frightened and afraid of this moment," he said.
