SHINee's Key has just made a solo comeback via his second mini album entitled 'Good & Great' on Monday September 11, 2023. Celebrating the comeback of his latest album, he is now busy appearing on a number of variety show programs to carry out promotions.

Recently Key appeared as a guest star on the YouTube program hosted by the famous presenter Yoo Jae Suk, entitled 'Just an Excuse'. On this occasion, Key successfully surprised guest host Ji Suk Jin about his work in entering his 16th year as a K-Pop idol.

Quoting from Allkpop on Saturday September 16, 2023, they then discussed the past, and Key shared a story about how strict the member selection process was before he officially debuted with boy group SHINee. Key further explained that initially SHINee was planned to have 7-8 members, and there were around 20 trainees vying for the position.

Key also admitted that at the final stage of member selection, the trainees didn't even talk to each other, because they were taking part in a cruel competition. "They call it the final test, you have to record yourself with a camera once and send it. This is the determination of whether you pass or not. It felt like we were taking a college entrance exam," explained Key.

Key further admitted that the trainees train non-stop. There is no such thing as friend or sister in the middle of the competition, because they are all opponents who must be defeated. Next, Key bluntly told about the cruelest process when selecting SHINee members at that time. "Until now I really don't understand why they did that.

Why didn't they write down the results and announce them personally to the trainees? But they gathered the trainees and cruelly announced the names of those who passed one by one," explained Key. The singer of the song 'Good & Great' continued, "They flatly announced it in front of everyone.

'The team that will debut next year, the members are...' So even though my name was called, I couldn't celebrate or pretend to be relieved." Ji Suk Jin then asked Key in what order he was called or selected as a member of SHINee. Key admitted that he was chosen as the 4th member after the late Jonghyun, Taemin and Minho.
