Actor and former member of the K-pop group EXO, Kris Wu, was officially sentenced to 13 years in prison for a case of forced disappearance in China. Not only that, this man whose full name is Wu Yi Fan will also be deported and possibly castrated by Canadian policy.
This sentence was determined after the Beijing Court rejected the appeal filed by Kris Wu. On Friday November 24, 2023, the Intermediate People's Court announced that it upheld the initial verdict on the charges against Kris Wu.
"The preliminary verdict states that the facts are clear, the evidence is strong and sufficient, the application of the law is correct, the punishment is appropriate, and the trial procedures are legal," the court said, quoted by the South China Morning Post.
Kris Wu's action was carried out at his house in December 2020. Kris Wu was forced and involved three women, including a drunk woman. He was also charged with committing immoral acts with many people at his home in July 2018.
A Chinese influencer named Du Meizhu played an important role in uncovering the case. Du Meizhu shared detailed statements and screenshots from other women as evidence. Even though Kris Wu initially refused, the legal process continued.
Then in July 2023, Kris Wu personally appeared in a Chinese Court to appeal the sentence. The court's decision to uphold the initial decision shows that Kris Wu's actions are considered an immoral group crime. With the court stating that Kris Wu acted as a leader who organized indecent activities involving other people.
As a result, the Beijing Chaoyang District People's Court sentenced Kris Wu to 11 years and 6 months for forcible assault. And 1 year and 10 months for immoral actions in a group, with a total sentence of 13 years in prison.
The court also ordered that Kris Wu be deported from China after he completes his sentence. For additional information, Kris Wu debuted as a member of EXO on April 8 2012. Then Kris Wu left EXO in 2014 before continuing individual activities in China.
