SM Entertainment released an apology regarding the video footage showing NCT's Haechan caught on camera smoking an electronic cigarette in the practice room. Quoting from Allkpop on Thursday January 11, 2024, one of the representatives from the SM Entertainment agency issued an official statement of apology regarding this problem.
"After the behind-the-scenes video for NCT 127's dance practice 'Be There For Me' was released on January 10, 2024, we confirmed that Haechan was caught on camera smoking an electronic cigarette indoors," said the agency.
They added, “Today we received a warning letter and a fine for violating the law regarding indoor smoking from a local health center. We decided to pay the fine for the violation. The agency further emphasized that they apologized to many people for causing concern over Haechan's careless actions.
They also promised to take further preventive measures, so that similar mistakes do not happen again. Meanwhile, NCT's Haechan successfully became a public topic of conversation in online communities after video footage of him smoking an electronic cigarette in the practice room spread on social media.
On the other hand, NCT's Haechan is reportedly taking a short break from his activities, after reportedly experiencing severe tonsillitis. Haechan was absent from NCT 127's 'Neo City: The Unity' concert in Nagoya, Japan on January 7-8, 2024.
The idol born in 2000 was also absent from the NCT Dream group's performance at the 'Circle Chart Music Awards 2024' which was held on January 10, 2024. At the 'Circle Chart Music Awards 2024' awards ceremony, NCT Dream successfully won 3 awards at once, for the categories 'World K-Pop Star', 'Artist of the Year – Physical Album', and 'Digital Album of the Year'.
Apart from that, they also closed the event by performing three songs on stage at once. Starting from 'Boom', 'Broken Melodies', and 'ISTJ'. Meanwhile, on January 11, 2024, Haechan was seen returning to his activities by leaving with the other NCT 127 members to attend a fansign and concert in Jakarta on January 12-14, 2024.
