Apple has just officially introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, featuring the next-generation A20 Pro chip. More than just a performance boost, this chip is designed to handle increasingly demanding computing needs, including artificial intelligence (AI), gaming, computational photography, and multitasking.
The presence of the A20 Pro is a key factor in determining how relevant the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will be in use for several years. Apple says the chip uses 2-nanometer fabrication technology and offers improvements to the CPU, GPU, memory bandwidth, and AI processing capabilities.
As reported by VIVA on Friday, September 11, 2026, the A20 Pro uses a 6-core CPU and a 7-core GPU. Apple claims the GPU on this chip can provide up to a 40 percent performance increase compared to the A19 Pro. Meanwhile, memory bandwidth has increased by 50 percent.

Apple claims the iPhone 18 Pro Max can deliver up to 45 hours of video playback. This model also features efficiency improvements thanks to Apple silicon and a new battery design. Meanwhile, the iPhone 18 Pro can deliver up to 36 hours of video playback.
If the device can last longer on a single charge, users can reduce the daily charging frequency. However, battery health will still be a critical component to consider when using the device for several years.
The A20 Pro certainly offers ample capital for long-term use, but that doesn't mean the phone's performance will remain the same over the years. Battery life, storage, system updates, app requirements, and usage patterns all play a role.
However, in terms of specifications, the A20 Pro offers a significant performance boost. The combination of a 2-nanometer process, increased memory bandwidth, a faster GPU, a more powerful Neural Engine, and a new cooling system means the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max go beyond the performance of the original.
