NewJeans recently received accusations of plagiarism after releasing their latest single entitled ' Bubble Gum '. NewJeans released the music video for their pre-release single, 'Bubble Gum', on April 26. This release was made when the conflict between ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin and HYBE broke out, thus attracting more attention from the public.

The music video for 'Bubble Gum' features a lively school atmosphere and soft sounds that are reminiscent of NewJeans' previous hit songs. Quoting from Allkpop, the composer who made the song 'Bubble Gum' had previously made NewJeans' hit songs such as 'Attention', 'Hype Boy', and 'Ditto'.

However, ahead of their comeback schedule with the single 'How Sweet', NewJeans was involved in accusations of plagiarism. Many claim that the song 'Bubble Gum' sounds very similar to the song 'Easier Said Than Done' by British jazz-funk group SHAKATAK.

SHAKATAK also acknowledged this similarity on their social media and announced plans to carry out further investigations. In response, a YouTuber posted a video analyzing the two songs, pointing out the obvious differences in chord progression. Thus, they concluded that 'Bubble Gum' did not plagiarize 'Easier Said Than Done'.

The YouTuber stated that the controversy may have stemmed from a misleading mix of the two songs. There is also a theory that 'Bubble Gum' uses a sample from 'Easier Said Than Done', but there is no official registration for the sample on copyright platforms or in the song credits.

However, this is only a personal analysis. Therefore, many are waiting for ADOR to issue a statement regarding the matter. Not only that, Vietnamese music fans have previously noted that the dialogue portion of 'Bubble Gum' is similar to Bich Phuong's 2021 song 'Do You Guess'.

However, NewJeans fans argue that the vocal style is common across many of the songs. Accusations of plagiarism against NewJeans have sparked mixed opinions. Many do not blame NewJeans even though they claim that the song does sound similar. Meanwhile, netizens think that the agency should issue a statement to clear up the situation.
