Sony Pictures is collaborating again with classy actor, Will Smith. The film Bad Boys: Ride or Die marks the return of the actor famous for Men in Black and Suicide Squad to the cinema screen. The fourth film in the Sony franchise was a huge success, grossing $218 million and being Will Smith's first film in theaters since he won an Oscar for King Richard in 2021.
Currently, the studio is developing a science fiction film entitled Resistor which will star Will Smith. Adapting from Deadline on Thursday June 20, 2024, Will Smith will be a producer through his company, Westbrook Inc., with Jon Mone. Todd Black will team up with Jason Blumenthal (The Equalizer 3), Steve Tisch (Servant), and Tony Shaw to produce the film.
This science fiction thriller film is adapted from the novel Influx by Daniel Saurez which became a New York Times bestseller in 2015. According to the official synopsis, it tells the story of a physicist named Jon Grady and his team discovering a device capable of reflecting gravity—a major achievement that will revolutionize the field of physics and change the future.
However, instead of receiving praise, Grady's laboratory was locked down by a secret organization called the Bureau of Technology Control . The Bureau of Technology Control (BTC) aims to hide the truth about sudden technological advances and prevent the social unrest they can trigger. They believe that the future is already here and only a few people deserve it.
When Grady refuses to join BTC, he is immediately punished by being thrown into a state-of-the-art prison full of high technology, where other rebellious intellectuals are also located. According to reported information, Zak Olkewicz has completed the first script for the film Resistor . Meanwhile, Eric Singer recently completed his latest draft. Deadline also notes that Resistor is the first project Will Smith has chosen following the success of Bad Boys 4 , which grossed more than $100 million on its debut day.
Aside from the Bad Boys franchise , which has now earned billions of dollars, Sony's Columbia Pictures also released the blockbuster trilogy Men in Black , the romantic comedy Hitch , the superhero comedy Hancock , and the science fiction film After Earth in 2013. The studio also presented the biopic drama Ali in 2001, which earned Will Smith his first Oscar nomination, as well as The Pursuit of Happyness in 2007, for which the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star received his second nomination for Best Actor.
