Over the past week, BTS's Suga has been in the spotlight after being caught drunk driving an electric scooter. HYBE, the company that houses Suga, has even been pressured to remove him from the K-pop group BTS.
On Tuesday August 6, 2024 night, BTS's Suga reportedly fell off an electric scooter after returning from a dinner agenda. The owner of the real name Min Yoongi was helped to his feet by a patrolling police officer. BTS's Suga immediately drew criticism from netizens because he was considered to be endangering the lives of others on the road.
In addition, the use of electric scooters has been regulated in South Korean traffic law. After conducting an examination, it was revealed that BTS Suga's blood alcohol content was 0.227%. Higher than the percentage of 0.08% alcohol content that requires someone's driver's license to be revoked.
According to HYBE's report, BTS's Suga has lost his driver's license. Now the rapper of the KPop group BTS is facing a fine of 10 million won to 20 million won, or a prison sentence of two to five years. BTS Suga controversy has divided fans. Some ARMYs (the name for BTS's K-pop fans) are demanding Suga to leave the group.
While other fans show solidarity and assure BTS that there are seven members. Following the fan turmoil, HYBE finally spoke up through an exclusive interview with YTN. They emphasized that the pressure to remove Suga from BTS was unreasonable.
HYBE representatives apologized and tried to fix the situation that divided ARMY. "The talk about Suga leaving BTS is nonsense. We will apologize and work hard to resolve the conflict between fans," HYBE said in a statement, as reported by Koreaboo.
Previously, some fans raised a hashtag on Twitter for BTS's Suga to leave. While other fans sent wreaths in front of the HYBE building with similar demands. In response to the demand, other fans voiced the message that the KPop group BTS would not be complete without Suga.
Moreover, ARMY is now waiting for the moment when the KPop group BTS personnel will make a comeback after completing their military service in 2025. BTS's Suga is currently still serving in the military as a public service officer. Likewise, RM, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook are serving as Army soldiers. Meanwhile, Jin is the only personnel who has been discharged.
