Ahead of its release, the original Korean drama Disney+ Hotstar titled Gangnam B Side has leaked the character of its main actor, namely Ji Chang Wook. Gangnam B Side is a crime drama that follows a detective, a prosecutor, and a mysterious broker, each following different leads to find Jae Hee, the missing ace of a club.
The drama is directed and written by Park Nu Ri, who is known for her hit film Money. Not only Ji Chang Wook, the series also stars Jo Woo Jin, Ha Yun Kyung and BIBI as the main cast. In this drama, Ji Chang Wook plays Yoon Gil Ho, a mysterious broker and lawless figure in Gangnam.
His presence has attracted attention since he first appeared on screen. Yoon Gil Ho is depicted as a character who survives alone in the dark alleys of a bustling city, exuding a terrifying tension with his blank expression and sharp gaze.
Ji Chang Wook perfects his character with a striking look that includes long hair, a fur jacket, and flashy accessories. The scar on his face is very visible, adding depth to his role. “I spent a lot of time putting on makeup for my injuries during every shoot,” said Ji Chang Wook, as quoted by Soompi on October 14, 2024.
He added, “Although hairstyles, clothes, earrings and tattoos are important, the most important aspect to me is the scar on my face.” The 1987-born actor added, “Yoon Gil Ho rarely has a clean face,” and stated that scars are “the biggest tool that can concisely express what kind of life the character has lived.”
This adds to the intrigue of Yoon Gil Ho’s hidden background and the daily challenges he faces. Ji Chang Wook describes Yoon Gil Ho as “someone with a clear line between his people and those who are not.” He emphasized the importance of showing the character's relationships with others, saying,
“This character expresses himself more through his gaze and actions than through dialogue, so I focused on my movements in each scene,” he added, calling it a “new challenge.” Jo Woo Jin, who collaborated with Ji Chang Wook again after their last project, praised him, saying, “To me, he looks better than before.
I feel like he has become broader and deeper.” He added, “Viewers will see a broader version of Ji Chang Wook’s charms,” which increased excitement for the project. Gangnam B Side is Ji Chang Wook's second drama to air in 2024, after completing Queen Woo.
Previously, he has shown his stunning acting skills through hit dramas such as Welcome to Samdalri, The Worst of Evil and many others. Meanwhile, Gangnam B Side will premiere on November 6, 2024, via the Disney+ Hotstar streaming platform.
