The actions of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol who announced martial law on December 3 have sparked concerns from BTS members. The reason is, there are 5 members namely BTS' Jungkook, RM, V, Suga and Jimin who are currently still undergoing military service.
Fans have taken to online communities and social media platforms to express their concerns about BTS's military service being extended, sharing posts such as, "Please let our Jimin get out of the military safely." Others wrote, "Our boys are just a few days away from their military discharge." Others wrote,
"Does the delay mean their military discharge date will be pushed back?" and "Is BTS's military discharge date extended indefinitely?" Fortunately, the martial law declared by President Suk Yeol only lasted for a few hours. At around 1 a.m. on December 4, 2024, the National Assembly passed a resolution to lift martial law with unanimous support from the 190 lawmakers present.
President Suk Yeol finally lifted the martial law declaration about six hours later at 4:30 a.m. the same day. Soon after the announcement, the Ministry of National Defense announced that the extension of military service was canceled. "With the lifting of martial law, the postponement of active soldiers' discharge has been canceled.
All measures implemented during martial law have been canceled," the Ministry of National Defense said, confirming that BTS members will enlist as scheduled. Currently, RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook are serving as active soldiers. Meanwhile, Suga is serving his alternative duty as a social service agent.
The other two members, Jin and J-Hope, have already completed their military service. Next, RM and V are scheduled to be discharged from military service on June 10, 2025. Then, Jimin and Jungkook on June 11, 2025. Lastly, Suga is scheduled to complete his military service on June 21, 2025.
In a recent showcase, Jin hinted that BTS will be making a comeback once all the members are discharged. "We've experienced great happiness in life. Just when we thought it was the end, greater happiness awaited us. If you wait, I believe happiness will find you again," he said.
