SM Entertainment announced that they will continue to take strong legal action against individuals who spread harassing and slanderous content against the group aespa. On February 11, 2025, SM released an update regarding the legal steps taken regarding malicious comments and posts targeting aespa, including sexual harassment and the spread of false material.
Through fan reports and internal monitoring, SM has managed to gather evidence regarding various malicious posts attacking aespa. Based on this evidence, the company has filed a lawsuit for defamation, insults, and the spread of manipulated fake videos. Several suspects have been identified and are currently under further investigation.
In fact, several cases have been referred to the prosecutor's office with several defendants receiving final legal decisions, including fines for those who spread fake videos via the Telegram platform. This case involved a breach of the Special Offences against Sexual Offences (Distribution of Fake Videos) Act which resulted in a summary order with a fine.
SM Entertainment reiterated its commitment to continue taking strong legal action against malicious content attacking aespa, both domestically and internationally. They emphasized that protecting the rights and interests of their artists is a top priority. "We will continue to do our best to protect the rights and interests of our artists," SM wrote in its official statement, quoted from Soompi on Tuesday February 11, 2025.
This firm step is in line with SM Entertainment's seriousness in maintaining aespa's honor, especially in the midst of their journey on the 'SYNK: Parallel Line' world tour. The group is scheduled to perform in major cities, including Newark, New Jersey, on February 11, and Toronto, Canada, on February 13, 2025. They will also continue their tour to Europe, including London on March 2 and Paris on March 4, 2025.
SM hopes that this legal action can create a sense of security for aespa and set an example for those who intend to harm artists through the spread of malicious content. In addition, SM's statement also reminded that they will continue to monitor and report any form of harassment and spread of negative content against aespa in order to maintain the integrity and welfare of this group.
