The Boys first arrived in 2019 and immediately made a splash with its controversial superhero story. Since then, the series has become one of Prime Video's mainstays. Even though it is confirmed that it will end in the fifth season, the universe will continue through various spin-offs.
One of them is Gen V which debuted in 2023 and immediately got the green light for a second season. The filming itself has been completed since last year. One of the characters that was in the spotlight in the first season was Luke Riordan or Golden Boy played by Patrick Schwarzenegger.
Although his character died early in the story, many fans hoped he could return in the second season. Unfortunately, in an interview with ScreenRant, Patrick Schwarzenegger confirmed that Golden Boy will not be appearing in season two.
However, he is still open to returning in future seasons. " No, I hope so, but at that time we were actually shooting White Lotus at the same time as Gen V was being shot. So, it didn't happen. But maybe in season three or another time ," said Patrick Schwarzenegger, quoted on Tuesday February 11, 2025.
Golden Boy may have died in the fourth episode of Gen V season one, but his appearance via a flashback scene made his presence felt. If he had appeared again in season two, it wouldn't have been a surprise.
Conflicting filming schedules are common in this industry, but at least Patrick Schwarzenegger has shown interest in returning to the Golden Boy role in the future. Compared to Homelander (Antony Starr), Golden Boy's power is still far below him. But in the Gen V universe, he is still one of the strongest.
In addition to the potential for a comeback, it would be interesting if the next season could explore more of his relationship with his younger brother, Sam (Asa Germann), through flashback scenes. Prime Video has yet to announce an official release date for Gen V season two, but according to Amazon executive Vernon Sanders, the series will air in 2025.
On the other hand, The Boys season five is also still in production and is scheduled to be released in 2026. So, it makes sense for Gen V to air first this year before The Boys ends its story with a final season that is predicted to be full of surprises next year.
