Park Hyung Sik’s side has officially denied reports that he was paid 400 million won per episode for his recent Disney Plus series, Twelve. RÊVE Entertainment released a statement today addressing the rumors:
“All media reports regarding Park Hyung Sik’s acting fee, from Doctor Slump to his current project Twelve, are untrue. These false claims are being treated as fact, so we are issuing this statement to set the record straight.”
The agency added, “Park Hyung Sik approaches every project with sincerity. We ask for your continued support for his future work.” This follows a Dispatch report claiming that Park Hyung Sik earned approximately 400 million won per episode for the fantasy drama Twelve.
Earlier this year, another outlet claimed he was paid around 500 million won per episode for the medical drama Doctor Slump. Dispatch also reported that Twelve’s two leads, Ma Dong Seok and Park Hyung Sik, received about 500 million won and 400 million won per episode, respectively.
Their combined salaries allegedly consumed 34% of the show’s entire production budget. The reports sparked public backlash, with many arguing that the stars’ high salaries compromised the show’s overall quality.
Twelve was heavily criticized for its poor CGI, cheap-looking makeup and weak storyline, with viewers labeling it “children’s show level.” The poor reception was reflected in the ratings, which plunged from 8.1% at the premiere to just 2.4% by the finale.
Despite this, reports indicate that the production company and lead investor LG U+ still managed to recoup their costs. The season ended on a cliffhanger, but industry insiders warn another season is doomed to fail without major improvements to the script and post-production.
