Last October 2025, Moon Taeil's attorney filed an appeal with the Supreme Court against the 3.5-year prison sentence handed down by the high court. The appeal was rejected by the Supreme Court.

As reported by the Korea JoongAng Daily, the Supreme Court issued an official ruling rejecting the appeal on Friday (December 26, 2025). Taeil and his two friends, Lee and Hong, remained in prison, as sentenced by the previous court.

The three were charged with committing special quasi-rape (rape by at least two individuals, one of whom is armed, against a victim who is unable to resist due to being unconscious), and were sentenced under the Law on Special Cases Relating to the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.

Taeil, along with Lee and Hong, was involved in this rape case in June 2024. He reportedly raped a foreign woman who was under the influence of alcohol. The former NCT member was questioned by police for the first time in the same month, then in August 2024 he complied with the police summons for further questioning.

In October 2024, Taeil was kicked out of NCT. SM Entertainment also terminated its exclusive contract with the singer. Then, in July 2025, after the court sentenced Taeil and his two accomplices to 3.5 years, they were immediately detained. The sentence was lighter than the 7 years demanded by the prosecutors.

After the verdict was handed down, Taeil's legal team appealed to a higher court. The appeal was rejected in October. Until the case finally reached the Supreme Court, an official verdict was made, and an official sentence was handed down.

In addition to 3.5 years in prison, Taeil and his accomplices were also ordered to complete 40 hours of sexual violence rehabilitation. They were also prohibited from working in areas near children, adolescents, and people with disabilities for five years.
