South Korean singer and rapper Psy, singer of the hit song Gangnam Style, has been handed over to the prosecutor's office on suspicion of receiving a prescription for psychotropic drugs through another party without a direct examination by a doctor.
Reporting from Yonhap, Tuesday, June 2, 2026, police said Psy, whose real name is Park Jae-sang, is suspected of receiving prescriptions for Xanax and Stilnox from a university hospital in Seoul from 2022 to 2025.
The two drugs were then allegedly taken by Psy's manager and another third party. The Seoul Seodaemun Police Station said a total of six people had been referred to prosecutors on Friday June 5, 2026.
They include Psy, his manager, and the doctor who prescribed the drugs. They are suspected of violating South Korean medical law, which prohibits prescriptions through intermediaries. Xanax and Stilnox are psychotropic medications.
These drugs act on the central nervous system and are typically used to treat sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, and depression. Due to the risk of causing dependency and addiction, prescribing this medication requires a face-to-face examination by a doctor.
