South Korean actor and member of the K-pop group ASTRO, Cha Eun Woo, has officially converted to Catholicism. He was confirmed to have undergone the sacrament of baptism during his mandatory military service.

As is known, Cha Eun Woo is actively serving as a corporal in the Ministry of Defense's military band unit. The star of the Korean drama "True Beauty" has been seen several times performing with his bandmates, showcasing his singing talents.

Amidst his obligations to the state, Cha Eun Woo decided to convert to Catholicism. According to a News1 report on Friday (July 1, 2026), he underwent the religious process last June 2026. Following the report, Cha Eun Woo's agency confirmed that he is now Catholic.

This marks the first time Cha Eun Woo has been open about his faith. "It is true that Cha Eun Woo received the sacrament of Catholic baptism in June," said Fantagio Entertainment in a statement.

In South Korea, during military service, enlisted soldiers are allowed to participate in religious activities held by each unit's division. Cha Eun Woo will begin his mandatory military service in July 2025.

For his baptismal name, Cha Eun Woo chose John, also known as Yohanes. Interestingly, the name is similar to his character's name when he played a Catholic priest and exorcist, Johan, also known as John, in the 2022 Korean drama "Island."

The drama, adapted from a novel, tells the story of a half-human half-monster, a conglomerate heir targeted by demons, and an exorcist priest who join forces to protect the world and uncover their past destinies.

Cha Eun Woo wowed fans with his appearance in a black robe. As a Gen Z priest who listens to K-pop, Cha Eun Woo's character also sports a stylish earring. He is expected to complete his mandatory military service in January 2027.
