South Korea has launched its highest-profile virtual artist recognition event. The Virtual Icon Awards will debut in February 2027. The Virtual Icon Awards are held by the Virtual Human Industry Association.
An official release, as reported by the Korea JoongAng Daily on Wednesday (November 4, 2026), stated that this is the first event in South Korea dedicated to virtual artists. The awards feature 20 trophies to be awarded to virtual scene activists.
Four Daesang awards will also be awarded early next year: virtual idols, virtual streamers, virtual characters, and virtual producers. One of the four Daesang winners will also receive the top award.
The winner will be determined entirely by voting, with the first phase beginning yesterday (November 3, 2026). Voting for phase two and phase three will be held on December 15, 2026 and January 20, 2027, respectively.
Fans can only vote for their idols through a special application from JKFanfom. The winner announcement ceremony will be held at Kintex, Goyang, Gyeonggi, South Korea, during a two-day event on February 27-28, 2027.
"We will do our best to make this award a starting point where (virtual personalities) can be recognized for their talents and potential, by transcending boundaries and stereotypes," said Seo Guk Han, chairman of the Virtual Human Industry Association, in a statement.
