Fans of the animated film Pinocchio should be happy. The reason is, the classic 1940 animated film will return to greet fans in the form of live action. Unlike other Disney live action films that are shown on the big screen, Pinocchio will only be shown exclusively on Disney+.
The film is based on an 1883 children's book entitled The Adventure of Pinocchio by Italian writer Carlo Collodi. Famous actor Tom Hanks will play Geppetto the old woodcarver. The character of Pinocchio itself will be filled by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as the dubber. From the Pinocchio movie trailer uploaded by Walt Disney Studio on his YouTube account, it looks like a new nuance of the cartoon.
Like other Disney live action, this film directed by Robert Zemeckis has a storyline that is not much different from the original animated version. Geppetto, who lives alone and has no children, decides to make a wooden doll named Pinocchio. He treats Pinocchio like his biological son and hopes for the stars so that Pinocchio can become a real boy.
Pinocchio is finally turned into a real boy thanks to the power of the Blue Fairy (played by Cynthia Erivo) on the condition that he must show that he is a brave, honest and unselfish child. The fairy appoints a cricket named Jiminy Cricket (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who serves as Pinocchio's conscience.
On his journey to becoming more mature, Pinocchio encounters many temptations that will distract him from walking away from the path of goodness. Old characters such as Monstro, Stromboli, and Ikan Mas will also color the plot in this film. Cynthia Erivo's classic song, When You Wish Upon a Star, accompanies Pinocchio's journey, which will appear on September 8, 2022 on Disney+.
Not only that, in December Netflix will release a stop motion animated film from Pinocchio by Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro. “The Little Mermaid” and “Peter Pan & Wendy”, the two Disney animated films will also follow Pinocchio's footsteps into live action next year.
