The storyline of Four Hands Two Sonatas follows the friendship, love, rivalry, and development of two genius pianists who become students at a prestigious arts school: Kang Pio (played by Song Kang) and Choi Jeong Yo (played by Lee Jun Young).
The two go through their journey from adolescence as rivals to becoming world-renowned pianists. For example, the scene where Lee Jun Young cleans Song Kang's knee wound and pretends to play the piano on his shoulder.
Even the scene where Lee Jun Young and Song Kang lean their heads together while sleeping on the train. The close relationship between Song Kang and Lee Jun Young's characters has sparked debate on social media. Many have dismissed the notion that Four Hands Two Sonatas is a BL drama.
Some have even called it "a genre that suits each individual's beliefs." "Hey, that's friendship, you know. If a girl acts like that, she's called normal, but why are guys called bl if they act like that?" commented a netizen on TikTok.
