This production is based on a book written by mountaineer Joe Simpson about his near-death experience on the 20,853-foot Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes in 1985.
The bestselling book was turned into a documentary by Kevin MacDonald in 2003 and adapted for a stage play by David Greig in 2018. On May 13, it was announced that it would be officially adapted for theater in South Korea, to be directed by Kim Dong-yeon. with nine (9) stage actors, including longtime theater actor Kim Seon Ho.
On June 23, The Best Play released a video, introducing the entire cast of Touching The Void (2022). This is an 8 minute video that includes the interview and a glimpse of their photo shoot. Kim Seon Ho sat on the black sofa, looking fresh and radiant with a sweet smile and happy eyes. He began by introducing himself as Joe Simpson, a role he would be playing in the play.
When asked what made him participate in the theater project, he shared that the nature theme caught his attention as well as the lessons that real-life stories and the cast he would play provide. Since the drama is a trip up the mountain in snowy weather, he is worried about how it will look on stage but believes in the creative efforts of the entire production team and cast.
Currently, he likes to listen to a song called Tree by Car, The Garden, one of his favorite artists. The chorus of the song says, “You are like a dancing tree. The formless music inside is me. Next to you, my fear becomes a pleasant image. That's all I needed." He mentioned that he particularly liked the vocal style of the song and how it expresses a message freely, touching your heart.
Kim Seon Ho ended the interview by promoting the drama, emphasizing the rich story of Touching The Void (2022) which is best experienced when you come to the theater and watch it live. He added that he would do his best with his role as Joe Simpson. It should be noted that during the interview and behind-the-scenes moments, Kim Seon Ho still holds the murderous charm and eyes that radiate warmth.
