Kim Sae Ron was arrested by the police on May 15, 2022 for drunk driving. Now, the actress will face trial. Reported by several Korean media, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office's Criminal Division 5 (chief prosecutor Choi Woo Young) indicted Kim Sae Ron without detention on December 16, 2022. He was indicted on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act.
A passenger in his 20s was also in the vehicle with Kim Sae Ron at the time. He was also tried without detention on suspicion of aiding and abetting drunk driving. Previously, Kim Sae Ron crashed into a number of trees and road fences in the Cheongdam area, Gangnam, on May 15, 2022 at 08.00 South Korean time.
The incident also damaged transformers, cut off the electricity supply to 57 nearby businesses which were restored within 3 hours. At the time of the accident, it was discovered that Kim Sae Ron's blood alcohol level was estimated at 0.2 percent, far exceeding the minimum 0.08 percent required to revoke his driver's license.
Kim Sae Ron at that time also refused to do an on-site alcohol level check, so the police had to go to the National Institute of Scientific Investigation to do a blood test. Following the incident, Kim Sae Ron delivered an apology which was released on social media. He admits all errors in the statement.
"I have no rebuttal whatsoever for this unfortunate incident. I feel very ashamed and disappointed in myself for the mistakes I have made," wrote Kim Sae Ron at the time. As a result of this incident, Kim Sae Ron withdrew from the Korean drama Trolley. In early December 2022, the actress also chose to leave the GOLDMEDALIST agency.
