The hearing for the objection filed by NewJeans against the court ruling that prohibited their independent activities will take place next month. The Seoul Central District Court’s Civil Division 50 has scheduled the hearing for April 9, 2025 regarding the objection filed by all five NewJeans members.
On March 21, 2025, the same day the court granted ADOR’s injunction to maintain its status as the group’s agency and to prohibit the members from signing independent advertisement contracts, NewJeans submitted their objection. The party filing for an injunction can appeal directly to the second instance if their request is dismissed.
On the other hand, the opposing party can file an objection, and if it is not accepted, they may then appeal. In other words, since the injunction filed by ADOR has been granted, NewJeans’ side must file an objection, and if it is not upheld, they can proceed with an appeal.
The court ruled that the five NewJeans members cannot engage in entertainment activities—whether on their own (including through legal representatives) or via third parties—without ADOR’s prior approval or consent.
The court explained, “Based solely on the claims and evidence submitted by NewJeans thus far, it is difficult to conclude that ADOR has violated key contractual obligations, justifying contract termination, or that the foundation of mutual trust between the parties has been irreparably damaged.”
As a result, NewJeans has temporarily suspended their activities. On March 23, 2025, at ComplexCon Hong Kong 2025 held at AsiaWorld-Expo, the members stated, “We have decided to suspend all activities in compliance with the court’s decision.”
In November 2023, NewJeans members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein declared that they were terminating their exclusive contracts due to ADOR’s alleged breaches. They later introduced their new group name, NJZ, and officially launched independent activities, including opening X (formerly Twitter), YouTube and TikTok accounts under the NJZ brand.
