Lee Seung Gi Decides to End His Contract with Hook Entertainment

Lee Seung Gi terminated his contract with agency Hook Entertainment after a case of his music revenue not being submitted. Lee Seung Gi sent a notification to terminate his exclusive contract with Hook Entertainment on Thursday, December 1, 2022 as reported by South Korean media News 1. 

An official from Lee Seung Gi's side told News 1, “ At this stage, where it is difficult to even confirm the facts clearly, it is difficult to have a peaceful resolution with Hook's thoughts. ” He continued, “ We hope that through Hook's responsible answer, the facts on which the settlement of music fees is based can be confirmed clearly. ” Previously, Lee Seung Gi asked his agency, Hook Entertainment, for details of his music income for 18 years. 

Lee Seung Gi claims that he has never received any income from music. However, until now no details have been submitted to Lee Seung Gi as per his request.  On November 25, Hook Entertainment CEO Kwon Ji Young said, “ I would like to clarify that the content that Hook has never paid for Lee Seung Gi's digital music is different from the truth. ”

Following CEO Kwon Ji Young's statement, on Wednesday, November 28, 2022 Lee Seung Gi's legal representatives denied this. They said, “ Lee Seung Gi has never received a payment settlement statement from Hook, and we do not know what type of music fees Hook Entertainment paid Lee Seung Gi. ”

Through this series of events, Lee Seung Gi finally confirmed that Hook Entertainment had violated its obligations under the exclusive contract. Therefore, at the beginning of December, Lee Seung Gi filed a contract cancellation with the agency that had overshadowed him for 18 years.

Lee Seung Gi has been actively working with Hook Entertainment for his drama and music career for 18 years, since his debut in 2004. In total there are 137 songs that Lee Seung Gi has released so far. Being his confidant for 18 years, Lee Seung Gi certainly felt disappointed with Hook Entertainment. Not to mention, Dispatch recently released footage of CEO Kwon Ji Young proven to be gaslighting.
