One of the Korean dramas currently airing is titled Doctor Cha. This JTBC original drama, which also airs on Streaming media service, Netflix, combines several genres that are currently popular in the Korean drama scene: medical dramas about hospitals and doctors-patients and affairs.
Even though these two genres are often synonymous with serious things, Doctor Cha packs them in a light comedy drama, aka drama. Played by Uhm Jung Hwa as Doctor Cha Jung Sook, Doctor Cha tells the story of a housewife who decides to quit her profession as a doctor for the sake of her family.
For 20 years she has been dedicated to raising her two children and being a good housewife. Until one day she experienced an illness that brought her very close to death. It was as if Cha Jung Sook was inspired to return to medicine and pursue her career in a second life. Cha Jung Sook then applied to become a resident doctor at the hospital where her husband worked.
Not only that, there was also his son who was serving as an intern doctor. From day to day, Cha Jung Sook's life challenges seem to be increasing. Starting from the demands of being a mother, balancing work, to smelling the affair between her husband and a co-worker who was also their college friend.
Cha Jung Sook also doesn't want people to know that she is the wife of a senior doctor there and the mother of one of the interns who is in her team. But there is one doctor named Roy Kim (Min Woo Hyuk) who already understands the situation and condition of Cha Jung Sook and even knows about the affair committed by Doctor Cha's husband.
Since the first episode, the audience has been invited to side with Doctor Cha and curse Seo In Ho (Kim Byung Chul), her husband who is having an affair. However, these characters are well written, so there are always surprises in every episode of Doctor Cha. In the first half of the season, it was filled with comedies packed with exaggerated camera shots and music.
Something that will definitely make you laugh after watching the drama of the affair which is the sub-plot of this story. Broadly speaking, Doctor Cha describes a struggle and restarting his career even though he is no longer at a relatively young age. With the appropriate acting and comedic timing of the cast, Doctor Cha deserves to be one of JTBC's productions that won high ratings this year.
