ENHYPEN fans in Korea have been busy recently because of their protest action against the choreography for the song Bite Me which features pair movements with a number of female backup dancers. Just as the issue subsided, fans protested again and felt cheated. This time with one of the weekly M!Countdown music programs.
Quoting from Koreaboo on Saturday May 27, 2023, one of the fans noticed that M! Countdown was using thumbnails with pictures of ENHYPEN members without female backup dancers for the performance of the song Bite Me. However, in fact the video shows the choreography and closing poses with a number of backup dancers.
One fan took to the online community and stated that he was not aware of the thumbnail beforehand. However, he admitted that when ENHYPEN pre-recorded the song Bite Me , a number of fans were there to support them. At that time, backup dancers were not included in their ending poses.
However, the staff said that they should record something without fans present, and asked the fans to leave the venue. This led the fan to suspect that ENHYPEN had re-recorded the ending with backup dancers without fans present, and that M!Countdown used the footage in the video they uploaded.
However, within the thumbnail they use a different image. The fans felt cheated by the actions taken by M! Countdown. They also protested against the production team who were considered to be playing with the fans. " Why do they have to do this? Doesn't the dance look neat and clean without backup dancers at the ending ," wrote one fan.
" If they choose to be stubborn like that, they should still be recording with the backup dancers with the fans present, " said another fan. " They are really weird and don't think about fans' feelings. I don't know what their purpose is for doing this. However, this is really not normal ," said another fan.
" They say this is like noise marketing. However, what benefits do they get by doing something like this from non-K-Pop fans. Nothing! "said another fan. A number of fans also agreed and thought that M! Countdown's attitude was too childish because it sparked debates with fans. What do you think?
