Recently, a military official spoke out regarding changes to EXO's Kai military enlistment law. Recently, SM Entertainment announced the sudden  departure of one of the EXO members to carry out state duties. According to SM's explanation, the sudden departure was due to a change in military law.

"Although Kai has been preparing for EXO's comeback later this year, due to the recent law changes regarding military enlistment, Kai will enlist on May 11, 2023 to complete basic training, after which he will start working as a social worker," quoted an explanation from the representative. Then a difference of opinion arose from fans who claimed that the law regarding enlistment had been changed in January 2023. So that the company can give the star whose real name Kim Jongin enough time to prepare for military service, rather than shocking fans and Kai himself.

The official told XSportsNews on May 4, 2023, "There is no change to the regulations regarding enlistment and conscription." Through this new information, fans are more angry than ever at the company. They called SM Entertainment lying. 

As a result Kai will not be able to join the other members to carry out EXO's comeback at the end of this year.
