Three EXO members, Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen have terminated their exclusive contract with SM Entertainment. This shocking news was conveyed through legal representative and lawyer Lee Jae Hak from law firm Lin.
On Thursday, June 1, 2023, EXO-CBX's lawyer stated, "Since Tuesday, March 21, 2023 until now, the three members sent content certifications seven times, and through this, they requested a transparent copy of the settlement report and the basis for the settlement."
Content certification is a document detailing revenue and payments. Suspected of dishonesty, Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen chose to ask for a clear and transparent record of the company's income calculation, a fundamental right as an artist.
Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen notified SM Entertainment of the termination of their existing exclusive contract starting Thursday, June 1, 2023. According to legal representatives, SM Entertainment seeks to hold exclusive contracts with artists that are valid for at least 17 or 18 years.
