Kim Soo-hyun finally made his first public appearance after being in the spotlight for a long time due to the case that ensnared his name and the late Kim Sae-ron. The actor held a press conference which was also attended by his attorney, Kim Jong-bok on Monday March 31, 2025 afternoon.
The 1988-born actor opened his statement by bowing to the media crew. He then apologized for causing a commotion due to the scandal that occurred some time ago. "First of all, I apologize. Because of me, I think many people were affected by this," said Kim Soo-hyun, as reported by the Korea JoongAng Daily on Monday March 31, 2025.
"And I also feel sad that the late actress (Kim Sae-ron) can't rest in peace," added Kim Soo-hyun. Kim Soo-hyun then explained many things at the beginning of the press conference. The actor admitted that he was like a coward because he only cared about himself.
He also admitted that he felt afraid and unable to respond to other people's good intentions, so Kim Soo-hyun chose to remain silent before finally speaking out today. "I consider myself a coward. I'm always so busy holding on to everything I have," he said. "I couldn't even believe the good intentions that came to me.
I was always afraid of losing, getting hurt, and running away, denying everything," the actor said. "That's why it took me so long to be standing here today." Kim Soo-hyun immediately continued his statement by revealing many things, including the reason he once denied a romantic relationship with Kim Sae-ron.
The main actor of the drama Queen of Tears also appeared to cry when he openly discussed the scandal that dragged him into it. "I understand that people cannot believe what I say about what happened between me and the deceased," Kim Soo-hyun said.
"But since I only have one chance (to explain this), I would really appreciate it if you would listen to what I have to say," he continued. Kim Soo-hyun's first public appearance is related to the scandal that has dragged him since early March.
He received controversy due to a romantic relationship with the late Kim Sae-ron which was said to have been carried out since the actress was still a minor. On March 10, 2025, Kim Sae-ron's family revealed through a YouTube broadcast by Garo Sero Research Institute that Kim Soo-hyun had been in a relationship with the actress for six years.
The relationship even occurred when Kim Sae-ron was still 15 years old or under the age of majority. Garo Sero Research Institute has since routinely leaked photos and videos that were allegedly taken during their relationship and have become strong evidence for the claim. Gold Medalist , Kim Soo-hyun's agency, initially denied the relationship.
However, the agency eventually admitted that the actor had a romantic relationship with Kim Sae-ron. In addition, Gold Medalist also emphasized that the relationship occurred when Kim Sae-ron was of legal age or at the age of 19. The two were also said to have only dated briefly, namely since 2019 and broke up in 2020.
Kim Sae-ron's family then responded to the confession by revealing various other evidence that supported the family's claim that the two artists were dating when the actress was still a minor. The attorney also included intimate conversations on KakaoTalk that were allegedly carried out by Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Sae-ron in June 2016.
