The HBO series The Idol, starring BLACKPINK's Jennie, officially ended on Sunday June 2, 2023. Unfortunately BLACKPINK's Jennie character got a sad ending. Since its premiere on Sunday June 4, 2023, The Idol has drawn controversy because it features many explicit scenes. One of them is the scene of BLACKPINK's Jennie doing a sensual dance with a number of men.
The reason why BLACKPINK's Jennie starred in The Idol suddenly became a debate among Korean netizens. Moreover, the footage of the scene is busy being discussed on social media. Although viral because of BLACKPINK's Jennie, The Idol series did not attract attention with its storyline and experienced a significant drop in ratings on HBO.
The production team of The Idol cut one episode. So The Idol ended early with five episodes. The Idol series follows the story of singer Jocelyn (played by Lily-Rose Depp) who cancels her tour due to shock after the death of her mother. She begins a complicated relationship with Tedros (player of The Weeknd) the leader of a cult who helps Jocelyn work on her album.
BLACKPINK's Jennie, who made her acting debut through The Idol series, plays Dyanne, Jocelyn's background dancer who has ambitions to become a singer. In the fourth episode of The Idol, Jocelyn gave her backup dancer Dyanne her blessing to sing her song 'World Class Sinner' after getting a record deal.
But Jocelyn finally found out that Dyanne and Tedros were betrayers. The two of them already know each other and even have a secret relationship behind their backs. As seen in episode five of The Idol, Jocelyn is fed up with Tedros and intends to cut him out of her life.
With Jocelyn back in power, Magistrate Records producer Nikki (playing Jane Adams) has had no intention of debuting Dyanne. Nikki said that Magistrate Records had legal problems with one of the songwriters for 'World Class Sinner'. So Dyanne's fate as a singer is uncertain.
The producer promised to continue to support his career. As they were ushered back to the elevator, Nikki said, "Thank you very much. We'll be in touch and see you soon." Dyanne then threw a question that made the scene even more dramatic. "That's Jocelyn, right?" he asked as the Magistrate Records office elevator closed.
At the end of the fifth episode of The Idol, Lily-Rose Depp finally melted and accepted The Weeknd's love back. Meanwhile, BLACKPINK's Jennie character has to bury her dreams. Now, not a few fans hope that BLACKPINK's Jennie will get an acting offer after starring in The Idol with a better role.
