It all started in 1970 when Farrokh Bulsara (Rami Malek) worked as a baggage handler at Heathrow Airport and lived with his parents and sister. He went to the pub to see the band Smile perform. He immediately looked for them after the show. Farrokh manages to meet and is attracted to Mary Austin (Lucy Boynton) who works at the Biba boutique.

He also meets drummer Roger Taylor (Ben Hardy) and guitarist Brian May (Gwilym Lee) and learns that their lead singer and bassist, Tim Staffell (Jack Roth), has just quit to join Humpy Bong. Farrokh offered himself as a replacement singer and impressed them with his vocal abilities. In those moments, he looked for Mary in Biba and they started dating.

The band played shows across the UK with Farrokh as lead singer and new bassist John Deacon (Joe Mazzello). Once active with the band, Farrokh encouraged them to think bigger and sold their van to finance a recording album. A&R representatives from EMI asked engineer Roy Thomas Baker (Tim Plaster) for a demo.

Farrokh also changed his name to Freddie Mercury and changed the band's name to Queen. They sign with John Reid (Aidan Gillen), who books an American tour. Queen's daily schedule was managed by Paul Prenter (Allen Leech), who later became Freddie's manager from 1977 to 1986.

An appearance on Top of the Pops gave Queen their first hit, Killer Queen. The band began recording their fourth studio album, A Night at the Opera in 1975 with the intention of releasing Bohemian Rhapsody. However, they left EMI when executive Ray Foster refused to release it as the album's lead single.

Freddie then conspired with radio DJ Kenny Everett to debut the song on his program. Bohemian Rhapsody became a global hit despite the criticism it received. This song also made Queen famous worldwide. Don't miss 'Bohemian Rhapsody' in full at Trans TV Cinema on Friday September 22, 2023 at 23.00 WIB.
