The Korean drama ' Hierarchy ' which recently aired on Netflix is currently being discussed. Released on Friday June 7, 2024, this drama gained quite a lot of popularity even though it received some criticism from the audience.

Carrying the theme of school and its hierarchy, 'Hierarchy' tells the story of the revenge of an ordinary student who fights a group of elite and influential high school students who attend Jooshin High School. Jooshin High School is a gathering place for children from leading conglomerates, politicians and powerful people.

Being an ordinary student among the elite, Kang Ha (played by Lee Chae Min), managed to enter the school through a scholarship program, taking him on a mission to uncover the mysterious death of his twin brother. Apart from Lee Chae Min, this drama also stars rising names, namely Roh Jeong Eui, Kim Jae Won, Ji Hye Won, and Lee Won Jung.

Apart from the promising lineup, viewers are also interested in the premise of the story 'Hierarchy' which is considered to depict the education system in South Korea. Even though it received positive reviews from several aspects, there were also negative reactions due to the intimate scenes shown in the drama, especially the relationship between students and teachers.

Although 'Hierarchy' is a teen romance drama, the story also features the unexpected relationship between student Lee Woo Jin (Lee Won Jung) and one of the teachers at Jooshin High School, Miss Han (Byeon Seo Yoon). Due to Miss Han's profession and Woo Jin's status as the son of a political figure, the two agreed to keep their relationship a secret.

Viewers said they were surprised by this relationship. Woo Jin is just a junior high school student and is only 18 years old. This character is still a minor in Korea. Despite the young age, teachers dating students is a very sensitive topic. Apart from that, the drama also shows intimate and love scenes from other characters.

Some episodes also show their intimate moments, which are considered explicit by the audience and are not actually necessary in the premise of the story. Responding to this criticism, the 'Hierarchy' production team explained their reasons for showing intimate scenes in the teenage drama.

Quoting from KpopStarz on Wednesday June 12, 2024, producer Bae Hyun Jin discussed the differences between Netflix teen series and other teen-oriented dramas. "The difference is that children who live in the solid world created by the royal family simply break that idea and grow up," said producer Bae Hyun Jin. However, the protagonist, who comes from a lower class, shows resistance to the system, encouraging other students to break the cycle.

Meanwhile, for its provocative scenes, 'Hierarchy' also shows a glimpse of South Korea. "There are not many school dramas that explore school issues as explicitly as in Korea, so they attract attention abroad because the content shows the harsh reality in Korea," he added. Despite receiving harsh criticism, 'Hierarchy' still maintains its popularity.

According to the Netflix TOP 10 website on June 12, the series recorded 3.5 million views from June 7 to 9, ranking second in the Netflix TOP 10 non-English TV category. Additionally, after taking first place in Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam, the series entered the top 10 lists of 51 countries, including Korea, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, France, Nigeria, India, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
