' M3GAN ' was one of the biggest horror films of last year and a sequel is already in production. 'M3GAN 2.0' is scheduled to hit theaters in May next year with some of the original cast returning to action. But apparently, 'M3GAN 2.0' is not the only film from the 'M3GAN' universe that is worth looking forward to.
A new spinoff is scheduled to be released by Atomic Monster and Blumhouse in 2026. Adapted from Deadline on Friday June 21, 2024, this film will be entitled 'SOULM8TE' and is described as a classic 1990s erotic thriller with modern nuances.
This film is planned to be released in cinemas on January 2, 2026. Kate Dolan was appointed to direct this film. He rewrote the initial script created by Rafael Jordan based on stories by James Wan, Ingrid Bisu, and Jordan. Kate previously worked on the horror film 'You Are Not My Mother'.
Based on existing leaks, this film tells the story of a man who buys an intelligent android to help overcome his sadness after losing his wife who recently died. However, in his efforts to create the perfect partner, without realizing it he turns a lovebot that was initially harmless into a soulmate that brings disaster.
" For me, this film is basically an exploration of relationships and loneliness. Even though technology continues to advance, there are human truths that we still can't escape, and I really wanted to dig deeper into these things ," said Kate Dolan when this project was announced.
James Wan collaborated with Jason Blum to produce this film. Michael Clear and Judson Scott will serve as executive producers alongside Ingrid Bisu. Meanwhile, Alayna Glasthal is believed to be the main executive in this project.
For those who haven't watched it, the film tells that M3GAN is a brilliant breakthrough in artificial intelligence technology, a doll that is programmed to be children's best friend and parents' main ally. Created by Gemma, a robotics expert at a toy company, M3GAN can listen, observe and learn from interactions with the children it accompanies.
As Gemma faces pressure at work from her boss to complete the final version of M3GAN, she suddenly has to look after her newly abandoned 8-year-old niece, Cady. Gemma decides to connect the M3GAN prototype to Cady in an attempt to solve both problems, a decision that has the potential to have unexpected consequences.
