The Korean film 'Escape' starring Lee Je Hoon and Koo Kyo Hwan immediately ranked first at the Korean box office on its first day of showing in domestic cinemas.

On July 4, 2024, the Korean Film Council announced that the film 'Escape' attracted 112,658 moviegoers on its first day of release on July 3, 2024, surpassing 'Inside Out 2' and taking first place at the overall box office.

This is all the more meaningful because it is the first time in 22 days that a Korean film has topped the box office, a position previously held by a foreign film.

The film depicts the life-threatening pursuit of Im Kyu Nam (Lee Je Hoon), a North Korean soldier who dreams of starting a new life in South Korea. To achieve his dream, he must leave his home country and cross the DMZ.

Meanwhile, Officer Ri Hyun Sang (Koo Kyo Hwan) of North Korea's State Security Department pursues Im Kyu Nam. 'Escape', which achieved the feat of taking first place at the overall box office on its first day of release, is currently screening to rave reviews in cinemas across the country.
