Lee Jong Suk recently participated in a photo shoot and interview with Singles magazine. During the interview, the South Korean actor discussed his current drama projects, from "Seochodong" to "The Remarried Empress."
First, Lee Jong Suk revealed his preparations for starring in the drama adaptation of the popular webtoon "The Remarried Empress." "Since this drama is based on a very popular fantasy web novel, I think turning it into a live-action drama will be a challenge and an adventure for the director, actors, and staff," he said.
"There's a lot to prepare, but that makes it even more exciting. I'll definitely use the original work as a reference, and I'll follow the director's instructions and do exactly as he tells me to," Jong Suk added.
Next, regarding the drama "Seochodong," which he stars in alongside Moon Ga Young, "In my upcoming project 'Seochodong,' I play a character who wears glasses for the first time.
After choosing a pair of glasses, you have to wear the same pair throughout the series, so I was very meticulous in finding the right glasses," he revealed. Jong Suk also discussed the differences between his acting in "Seochodong" and his role in his last drama, "Big Mouth," in which he also played a lawyer.
"Although I played a lawyer in my last drama, the story didn't really focus on the character's work as a lawyer," he said. "In this drama, I fully portray the job of a lawyer, but there aren't many scenes with heated arguments or rebuttals in the courtroom.
It's an ensemble piece that focuses more on human relationships, so you can think of it as a drama about life. (My character) Joo Hyung didn't choose his career for some grand purpose," Jong Suk added. Jong Suk also teased his character's personality.
"Instead, he became a lawyer with the mindset of, 'Well, I'm good at studying and arguing, so why not give it a try?' The fact that he's not overly dramatic is one of his key qualities," he added. Next, Jong Suk was asked about the most meaningful experience he's had this year.
"This year is the Year of the Snake, right? I was born in the Year of the Snake, so I have a vague feeling that things will go well this year," he said. Jong Suk revealed that he actually wanted to rest more.
"However, I also know that there are people waiting for me. That's why, starting last year, I've been determined to really work hard this year," he added. Jong Suk then said, "I started planning and asking myself, 'What genre or project haven't I done yet?'
The projects I'll be doing aren't about doing what I like or enjoy, but rather about taking on new challenges. Although they haven't been revealed yet, these resolutions and choices are very meaningful to me," he concluded.
