The film Gladiator 2 (Gladiator II) will be released soon and recently they released the first poster as an introduction to the upcoming trailer. This film is a sequel to Gladiator , released in 2000, which successfully catapulted the names of Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix.

In the previous film, Russell Crowe played Maximus, an enslaved general and later gladiator idolized by young Lucius. Maximus dies after saving Lucius and Lucilla and killing Emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) to avenge the deaths of his wife and child.

Ridley Scott returns as director for this sequel, but this time casts Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal in the lead roles. Paul Mescal will play the now-adult Lucius Verus, while Pedro Pascal will play the Roman general Marcus Acacius who was once trained by Maximus' character (Russell Crowe).

The first Gladiator 2 poster shows Paul Mescal as Lucius Verus kneeling in the arena with a sword stuck nearby. The poster also lists the names of Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, and Denzel Washington as part of the cast. Previously, there have been several first looks showing the visuals of each character.

Pedro Pascal explained that Gladiator 2 is heavily inspired by the character Maximus from the first film. Pedro Pascal's character, Acacius, was trained by Maximus and follows his teachings. However, Acacius still has a different personality and abilities.

The Gladiator sequel will be set 15 years after the first film and will also star Denzel Washington as a former slave turned gladiator and arms dealer. May Calamawy, Peter Mensah, Matt Lucas, Lior Raz, and Tim McInnerny are also attached. Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger will play co-emperors Geta and Caracalla.

Ridley Scott returns as director after the success of the first Gladiator , with a script by David Scarpa. The film will also see the return of Oscar-winning costume designer Janty Yates and production designer Arthur Max. Gladiator 2 is set to take audiences to the ancient Roman battle arena this coming November 2024.
