Jang Dong Ju, who suddenly announced his retirement from acting earlier this year, is now starting a new chapter as a businessman with plans to take his company, Woosun Group, public. He revealed the plan on September 21, 2026, stating that the company he leads is developing a medium- to long-term growth strategy to achieve an IPO.
In an interview with StarNews, Jang Dong Ju explained that the experience he gained during his entertainment career, including acting, academia, and agency, will be utilized to expand Woosun Group into investment, arts and culture, property, and hospitality. The company is also seeking external investment and considering merger and acquisition opportunities to expand its portfolio.
Jang is the son of Jang Myung Chun, chairman of World General Construction, who has run the construction company for decades. He reportedly learned about corporate management and organizational operations from his father while pursuing his acting career.Celebrity & Entertainment News
Jang's acting career began in 2012, and he has appeared in dramas such as School 2017, My Strange Hero, Class of Lies, and Trigger, as well as films such as Honest Candidate and Handsome Guys. However, last May, he shocked the public by announcing his retirement, after being caught up in debt issues amounting to approximately 4 billion won.
He claimed to have been the victim of phone hacking and blackmail, and although he has repaid over 3 billion won, he still owes approximately 800 million won. Following his retirement announcement, Jang turned to online content creation and joined the livestreaming company Universe Label in July 2026.
His first livestream reportedly raised around 20 million won in viewer contributions. Within three weeks of starting livestreams, he reached TikTok's A1 League, winning live matches against celebrity creators like actor Park Si Hoo and singer-producer MC Mong.
According to reports, Jang's live broadcasts on TikTok generate an average of 30 million to 40 million won per month. At the same time, Jang emphasized that his current priority is paying off his remaining debts. "After I fulfill all my responsibilities, if given the opportunity, I also want to return someday as actor Jang Dong Ju," he said.
