Big Hit Music as the agency of the boy group BTS confirmed the truth of the latest CCTV footage showing BTS's Suga falling due to driving a scooter under the influence of alcohol. The CCTV footage was published by Donga Ilbo on Wednesday August 14, 2024 while simultaneously denying the truth of other CCTV footage uploaded by jTBC.
In the footage, a man is seen riding an electric scooter with a seat who then falls off while turning left in front of the main gate of the Nine One Hannam apartment complex on August 6, 2024 at 11:10 p.m. KST. As reported by TV Daily via Daum, Big Hit Music confirmed that the man in the recording was BTS's Suga.
In the same footage, three police officers who were patrolling the area appeared and approached Suga who was standing after falling. One of the officers was seen helping to pick up the helmet that had come off and giving it to the scooter owner. Other officers were then seen chatting and checking whether Suga was under the influence of alcohol while riding the electric scooter with a seat.
DongA Ilbo reported that Suga had been drinking alcohol since meeting his acquaintances at 9 p.m. KST near the Hannam intersection, right before he continued drinking at his personal studio. Suga was reported to have ridden the scooter around 11 p.m. KST.
The scooter had been parked at his personal studio located about 500 meters from Nine One Hannam. The footage also refutes a jTBC report on August 7, 2024 that said a scooter driver was speeding toward Namsan across from the Nine One Hannam complex.
In DongA Ilbo's footage, Suga is seen returning home along the sidewalk, in the opposite direction from the one mentioned in the jTBC video. The route and type of scooter were even reported to be different until the video previously released by jTBC was deleted.
However, Big Hit Music has yet to officially provide a statement regarding the release of the latest CCTV footage shared by local Korean media. The agency on Wednesday (August 7, 2024 gave initial confirmation that the vehicle used by BTS's Suga was not a kickboard, but a scooter with a seat.
The agency admitted guilt for hastily releasing information without carefully checking the truth of the tragedy. "Both the agency and the artist were unaware that there were still steps to be taken in the investigation process and we mistakenly thought that the case had been closed," Big Hit Music said.
