Inside Out 2 officially debuted as an animated film that reached a profit of US$1 billion in the international market. This achievement was covered by Box Office Mojo data on Monday August 26, 2024 which stated that Inside Out 2 officially earned US$1,002,700,000 in the traditional market.

The Inside Out sequel earned $646.3 million domestically, adding to its global haul of $1.649 billion. The previous film, which was released in 2015, was recorded as earning US$356 million in the domestic market, US$502.6 million in the international market, and US$859 million globally.

Quoted from Variety, Inside Out 2's achievement is quite rare because there are only 12 films that have been able to break through US$1 billion in the international market, especially Inside Out 2 being the only animated film to break this record. There are around 55 films globally or combined domestic and international markets that have been able to achieve box office revenues of US$1 billion.

11 of them are live-action films, namely Avatar (2009), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), Titanic (1997), Star Wars: Episode VII (2015), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), Jurassic World (2015), and The Lion King (2019).

Variety claims that Inside Out 2's achievement also adds to Disney's achievements in the summer of 2024. So far, there are two films released by the studio that have pocketed US$1 billion at the box office, namely Deadpool & Wolverine and Inside Out 2.

Deadpool 3 grossed $577.2 million domestically, while it earned $634.1 million internationally, bringing its global tally to $1.2 billion. Alien: Romulus, also released by 20th Century, under The Walt Disney, also reached a total of US$72.6 million domestically and US$152.8 million internationally.

Globally, the Alien franchise saga has earned US$225.4 million. "This is a remarkable turnaround for Disney, which has been largely out of the public eye, and quite surprisingly, for the past year and throughout the pandemic," said Paul Dergarabedian, senior analyst at Comscore, as reported by the New York Post on Sunday August 25, 2024.
