This is because the date is commemorated as Korea's Liberation Day, and many Koreans are sensitive to Japanese-related content uploaded on that day itself. National Liberation Day of Korea also known as Gwangbokjeol is celebrated as the day when Korea was liberated from 35 years of Japanese colonial rule by the Allies.
Therefore, Koreans refrain from consuming, promoting, and sharing Japanese goods or related content on the day itself. While Yeonjun quickly deleted the collection of photos, it turned out that quite a few Korean netizens were disappointed because the idol seemed to have forgotten such an important day.
Responding to his mistake, as reported by Soompi media on Friday August 162024, Yeonjun finally spoke up regarding the controversy. He sincerely apologized to the public through Weverse and Instagram.
"Hello. This is Yeonjun. I failed to respect the meaning and historical significance of Liberation Day and showed recklessness by uploading the photo," said Yeonjun. Furthermore, Yeonjun sincerely said, "I apologize to everyone who was hurt by my inappropriate actions. I will reflect on my shortcomings and be more careful to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future."
